GTTO Raises Concerns with The Sun Over Harmful Framing in Coverage
On April 11, 2025, Get The Trolls Out sent a formal letter to The Sun in response to an article published on February 18, 2025, titled “HELLHOLE JAIL: Sara Sharif’s evil dad ‘under protection of Muslim gang’ in Monster Mansion prison after tuna tin lid attack in cell.”
In the letter, we raised concerns about the article’s repeated emphasis on the religion of those mentioned, particularly the use of terms like “Muslim gang,” “Islamist gang,” and “terrorists.” We highlighted how such language can perpetuate harmful stereotypes, linking Muslim identity with violence, and risk fuelling anti-Muslim sentiment and division.
We urged The Sun to reflect on the broader impact of this kind of reporting and to consider more responsible, sensitive approaches when covering stories involving race, religion, and identity. Media plays a vital role in shaping public perception, and it’s essential that it does so without reinforcing prejudice.
