Our partner ENORB have received two replies to complaints made to the Belgium public-service broadcasting organisation RTBF regarding recent Islamophobic content on their site. Here are the responses:

Hello Madam RABAHI,

We have received your message concerning the dispatch entitled “Riots in Anderlecht:” Totally inadmissible “, denounces Interior Minister Pieter De Crem”, published on the RTBF info site.

We thank you for your approach.

When signed with the name of an agency (like Belga here), the dispatches are taken from the agency as is (or almost - the title may change) and published on the info site. Journalists thus share information quickly. Dispatches are short articles that set out the facts, with or without quotes from speakers. A dispatch stops at the facts, relays comments. There is no commentary or journalistic analysis in a dispatch.

This does not mean that a more in-depth treatment of a subject, with confrontation, can take place in the hours or days that follow.

This also doesn’t mean that your thinking can’t be shared within the editorial staff.

We forward your message to the head of diversity, who will be sensitive to your message. Its mission, within RTBF, is to promote diversity and inclusion for all, in particular minorities.

Please believe in the assurance of our sincere consideration,
— The mediation service

Hello Madam RABAHI,

We have received your message regarding the article relating to the CQFD program which dealt with violence against women during confinement. You point to concerns that are beyond the strict scope of this article, even though it can illustrate them.

I share your email and your contact with the RTBF diversity unit whose missions overlap with yours.

Please believe in the assurance of our sincere consideration,
— Louise Monaux, mediator
